Jesus used wool
blankets
Well I'm quite sure he must have had wool
blankets with all the sheep in that country and all
that good Shepard talk, besides what else was available?
Even today wool blankets can insulate better than other types
of blankets against heat and cold, to help maintain a
comfortable body temperature in every season or climate. Woolen
blankets are naturally flame-resistant. One thing to look for
is blankets that are moth-proofed. I lost some of my good wool
blankets to the moths, I had them over 30 years, I should have
stored them better.
Wool blankets keep you warm when wet
Wool blankets will let the water out and keep the insulation
value that's why loggers wear wool and hunters wear wool, you
can help prevent hypothermia by having a wool blanket when
hiking or camping, I use to have one in my car at all times got
to put that back in the car. When I was in the army all
we had was woolen blankets and in basic training I was issued
one blanket, let me tell you one thin wool blanket is not
enough in February, even in Louisiana.
In Viet Nam I had wool blankets
It does get damp and cold at night in Viet Nam so I am
a real believer in the properties of wool. It seemed that
everything I owned was always damp or wet but my wool blankets
kept me warm at night. Merino wool is one of the finest,
softest, grades of wool and can be woven to make it especially
lightweight to give you warmth without the heavy feel of my old
army wool blankets. Often the edges are bound with satin to
protect the blanket from wear and you from any harsh edges.
What about washable wool blankets
Some wool blankets have a tag that says dry clean, but I
believe that is just the manufacturer protecting themselves
from liable if the blanket shrinks on you. It is up to you, but
not one wool blanket I owned ever saw a dry cleaner. If
you pre-scrub the bad stains and soak the wool blanket
for a half hour then use a gentle agitation wash cycle it seems
to work ok. Do not machine dry, hang the wool blanket
over two clothes lines to dry after stretching and shaping it.
Later you can lay it on the floor while still damp to stretch
and shape again and brush it lightly to add a little fuzzy
fluff to the wool.
